Note from the artist

For this painting I used Ichi’s soutai bluish black inkstick which uses genuine indigo.

Canada is home to two-thirds of the world’s largest population of polar bears – approximately 16,000 bears.

They are found throughout the Canadian Arctic.

The bears rely upon arctic sea ice for hunting, travel and mating.

When the sea ice melts they live on land and live off their stores of fat to survive.

Canada manages 13 of the 19 global populations of polar bears in an approach that involves; not only scientists, but also Indigenous communities and the knowledge of other countries which are home to these magnificent bears Climate change and the resultant loss of sea ice poses a significant threat to the polar bear populations in Canada; as does the threat of mining and oil drilling.

Here we find a bear peacefully resting, unaware of the threats to his future.

He has found a Peace Within.

The hanko on this painting says peace or harmony
